How It Works

Step 1

We plan our work together to make the process simple and low-stress. We’ll assign your Writing Coach and get you started.

• Fill out a questionnaire to help us get to know you better.
• Zoom with a Student Success Manager to discuss your goals and create a personalized timeline for getting everything done.
• Get matched with a Writing Coach based on your college list, ambitions, and personality. 
• Schedule your first call with your Writing Coach. 

Step 2

We start by brainstorming your experiences that colleges will find compelling – content you’ll need to include on every application.

• Brainstorm your experiences using our tool within your Prompt account. It helps you identify and reflect upon your experiences that colleges will find most compelling.
• Zoom with your Writing Coach to discuss your experiences, further build out your content for each experience, and define your personal brand.
• Finalize your Application Plan by aligning with your Writing Coach on the content you must include on every application.

Creating your Application Plan is the single most important part of the application and essay process – a unique value only Prompt provides. It ensures you will write about each of your most compelling experiences in the most compelling way possible for every application.

Step 3

We typically start with the personal statement essay for the Common Application. Most applications require this 650-word essay.

• Zoom with your Writing Coach to identify what to write, create a detailed outline, and start your intro.
• Write your first draft using the detailed outline and submit your draft to your Writing Coach through Prompt’s platform.
• Receive written feedback on how to improve the content, structure, and clarity of your first draft. Here's example feedback →
• Revise your drafts and resubmit for more feedback. Your Writing Coach will focus on helping you make your content and writing clear, concise, and compelling.
• Finalize your Common App essay. You’ll work with your Writing Coach until you are both satisfied with your essay (typically 3-5 drafts). Students typically complete their Common App essay within 1-3 weeks of starting.

Step 4

With our help, you will complete every written component of the application for one of your top-choice colleges. Your first application will be ready to submit when we’re done!

• Zoom with your Writing Coach to match your content with each part of the application and develop an outline for each essay, ensuring your application has a cohesive and compelling narrative that clearly communicates your personal brand.
• Write your first draft of every essay, the activities list, and the additional information section. Submit your drafts to your Writing Coach through Prompt’s platform.
• Receive written feedback on how to improve the content, structure, and clarity of every draft.
• Revise your drafts and resubmit for more feedback. Your Writing Coach will focus on helping you make your content and writing clear, concise, and compelling.
• Finalize your first application. You’ll work with your Writing Coach until you are satisfied with all written parts of the application (typically 2-3 drafts of each essay). Students typically complete their first application within 1-3 weeks of finishing their Common App essay.

Step 5

We will continue working application by application until you complete your package or until you’ve submitted all of your applications (All Schools Package).

• Receive reminders from a Student Success Manager to hold you accountable to your timeline and application deadlines throughout the process.
• Zoom with your Writing Coach to plan your content for each school, identifying ways to reuse content across similar prompts and brainstorming new ideas. You'll meet as needed to make sure you are never starting from a blank page.
• Write drafts of every essay and submit your drafts to your Writing Coach through Prompt’s platform. Our platform helps you efficiently re-purpose essays you previously wrote into essays for other schools.
• Receive written feedback on how to improve the content, structure, and clarity of every draft.
• Revise your drafts and resubmit for more feedback. Your Writing Coach will focus on helping you make your content and writing clear, concise, and compelling.
• Finalize each application. You’ll work with your Writing Coach until you are satisfied with all written parts of each application (typically 1-3 drafts of each essay, with fewer drafts needed for each subsequent application you complete).
